10 Ways To Save On Your Energy Bills

Whether you’re a homeowner or a tenant, it’s in your interests to save some money on your energy bills. Here, we give you some easy tips & tricks to help you save some pennies at the end of the year on your utility bills.

  1. If your property doesn’t have it yet, loft insulation is a great way to prevent heat loss. Similarly, cavity wall insulation is well worth the investment and can save you £££ in the long-term.
  2. Repair or replace a damaged or very old front or back door. Although your old, ornate front door may look the part, it could be leaking heat and air, contributing to your energy costs.
  3. Install heavy curtains and shut them at night. They will act as a barrier and will stop heat loss.
  4. If you don’t already have it, consider investing in double, or even triple glazing, since the windows in your property can be one of the main sources of heat loss.
  5. Turning your room thermostat down by just one degree can make a big impact on your bills, and you won’t even notice the difference in temperature.
  6. During the summer months, try to keep curtains open during daytime, letting natural heat in through the windows.
  7. Don’t leave your computer, TV, or any other electrical devices on standby – turn them off after using them!
  8. Unplug your phone charger from the wall socket. You will still be wasting energy if your charger is plugged into a socket that’s switched on, even if your phone isn’t connected.
  9. If possible, do not place your thermostat near the front door or any other cold air entrance. This will manipulate the temperature unintentionally and the boiler will be forced to work harder.
  10. Make sure you’re not paying more than you need to on your energy bills. Switching providers is straightforward, and websites like uSwitch will take care of all the paperwork for you, making it easier than ever to save money on your bills.
